The Solar Storms and Terrestrial Impacts Center (SOLSTICE, PI Tamas Gombosi) was a large collaborative research center leveraging multidisciplinary research techniques to further our modern understanding of space weather. SOLSTICE target was to combine machine learning technology, numerical models, and data from space missions to make advances in space physics understanding and space weather capabilities.

Our group focused on developing methodologies for simulation of the geospace system to increase the accuracy and predictive capability of the models. The work included, for example, using machine learning methods to provide longer-term predictions for the Dst index characterizing geomagnetic storm intensity.
